What Should I Bring to NCI?
And What’s the Agenda for the Weekend?
The Northeast Clown Institute (NCI) is held every year on the third full weekend of January. This year’s weekend consists of Friday’s opening ceremony, followed by classes for First Year students, and competition discussions and balloon competitions for 2nd year and above. Friday night is the Buffet Dinner with entertainment for EVERYONE. We’re bringing back by popular demand Steve Taylor, a hilarious, professional ventriloquist and entertainer. Sunday we’ll have an auction with an Awards Brunch.
A detailed agenda for each day of the weekend will be available when you arrive, as changes are always a possibility beforehand. Here are the basics:
Registration begins on Friday at about noon. Right after that, the Opening with welcoming remarks starts the NCI weekend.
First Year Students will begin classes and then they will apply make up with a mentor. If you have make-up, bring it along. All first year students should participate in this.
Second Year Students and beyond begin Friday right after the Opening and welcoming remarks with a discussion on competition, setting the stage for the weekend’s variety of competitions. On Saturday, all second year and beyond students will have the opportunity to make up and dress for trophies and recognition by the acclaimed panel of judges. Competition for Costume & Make-up is available to 2ndyear and above students, EVEN THOSE STUDENTS PREVIOUSLY NOT ELIGIBLE. ALL 2nd YEAR AND ABOVE ARE ELIGIBLE DURING THIS YEAR’S 20th ANNIVERSARY NCI EVENT.
Sixth Year Students and beyond who do not wish to compete are encouraged to become Mentors. At NCI, we feel that after clowning for six or more years, you have a responsibility to pass along your knowledge to the next generation of clowns. If you are a student who has already attended NCI for five years, please consider becoming a mentor and helping a fellow Joey to learn the ropes. You’ll be glad you did.
On Friday evening, we offer a Buffet Dinner with entertainment. A registration form is required and this can be found on the same form as the NCI registration.
On Saturday night, there is no dinner program. Dinner will be “On-Your-Own.” The Radisson Plymouth Harbor has a wonderful restaurant and pub and they love serving the NCI attendees.
Sunday, all levels join together for the Awards Brunch and Sneaker Fund Auction, which supports Burns research for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. That is followed by graduation. At the graduation, awards are presented and certificates are distributed. The Official Charity of the NCI is the Sneaker Fund of the International Shrine Clowns Association. This fund contributes thousands of dollars each year to the vital research programs conducted at the burns institutes.
There you have it. The Board of Directors at NCI is looking forward to another great weekend in Plymouth at the Radisson. Gather your stuff and head to Plymouth Harbor. Our host hotel will welcome you and yours with hospitality in their beautiful hotel and the NCI team has pledged to continue its history of excellent education and fun. Mark your calendars and make your plans.
We’ll see you all there…..
