This is a story of two clowns, one known the other unknown but both of whom had the opportunity to make a special little girl happy. Recently Paula, my wife, received an email with this story from one of her co-workers who had heard I am a clown:


“I want to share this photo of my daughter Abby she is 8 years old now. In the summer of 2010 she spent 21 days in the intensive care unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital, after a severe seizure. After waking up from that long seizure, I didn't think we were going to see our Abby again. She would just stare, and look at us like she didn't know us. One day we got a special visitor, a clown. My NOSE won’t stay on.  It’s a complaint we have heard a few times this summer and have been asked for a suggestion or two.  When one considers clown noses it’s the latest and most pronounced feature of clowndom.  What do I mean?  Clowns have only been wearing noses for about 100 years yet when any one sees you in your nose; they immediately identify you as a clown!  


There are lots of reasons that a nose will fall off.  Let’s see…the glue has lost its stickiness.  The string broke.  The glue never really took hold.  The do dad came loose.  The nose didn’t fit right in the first place.  The adhesive has been compromised.
